NoviGuide Surpasses 400,000 Uses, Expands to
74 Hospitals and Health Centers

Global Strategies is proud to announce a major milestone: medical professionals at 74 health facilities in Uganda and eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have now used NoviGuide, the organization’s neonatal assessment application, more than 400,000 times to deliver life-saving care to newborns.
NoviGuide provides step-by-step guidance through complex neonatal protocols, helping clinicians deliver timely, evidence-based care during the critical first 48 hours of life. Built for busy hospital environments and delivered on low-cost Android tablets, the tool enables nurses, midwives, and doctors to make informed decisions in real time. NoviGuide’s features help clinicians:

  • Follow regional guidelines and best practices
  • Optimize care using the resources available in their setting
  • Safely calculate medication and nutrition for vulnerable newborns—including those weighing as little as two pounds
Since its introduction, NoviGuide’s use has grown from four hospitals to 74 facilities in just over two years, reaching rural and conflict-affected regions where neonatal mortality is highest. This rapid expansion has been made possible through partnerships with local organizations, particularly the Nakakeeto Foundation in Uganda and HEAL Africa in the DRC.
“Since we started using NoviGuide, we’ve seen fewer early newborn deaths and fewer babies readmitted to the neonatal unit,” says Sister Marcy Obizuyo of Koboko General Hospital in northwestern Uganda. “The tool also gives us more time for learning, which has improved our skills. NoviGuide has truly transformed our hospital, making our care better and leaving mothers more satisfied.”
President of Global Strategies Dr. Joshua Bress emphasized the urgency of expanding access to effective newborn care tools: “The cure for neonatal mortality is an empowered nurse.  A nurse empowered with the knowledge to treat babies wherever they are born, with the resources available on site. With 2.5 million lives lost each year, this problem demands urgent action and NoviGuide is built to meet that need.”
